MPathic-IBCH Project
MPathic-IBCH (Implicit Bias and Cultural Humility) is an NIH funded project aimed at training medical students to become more sensitive when communicating with patients from different backgrounds. This is achieved through multiple interactions with standardized patients and virtual human patient scenarios. The virtual human patient sessions involved students interacting with a patient seeking a new physician. Students were instructed to select the most empathetic from among a set of three statements and say it to the patient who would respond and behave differently depending on their choice. Responsibilities involved quantitative analysis of chosen statements across all sessions as well as qualitative analysis of the students’ comments about the educational experience.
