Clinical Skills Assessment Evaluation

The Sentara Center for Healthcare Simulation and Immersive Learning (SCSIL) at Eastern Virginia Medical School hosts Clinical Skill Assessments (CSA) to evaluate medical student's ability to perform clinical skills on standardized patients (SP). Students are placed in several scenarios rated by observers watching a live feed of the interaction. I was assigned to observe the practice CSA to assist with standardizing the checklists used for rating SPs and evaluate the CSA system to uphold accurate ratings for the checklists. Duties performed included observation of scenarios, contextual inquiries with SPs, examination of camera angles, and edited wording of checklist measures to ensure objectivity.
