Cybersecurity-Password Manager Prototype

As president of the ODU Human Factors and Ergonomics Society student chapter, I strive to teach our student members methods and software commonly used in the industry. We held a design challenge to address the month's topics: cybersecurity and ergonomics. The topic of cybersecurity coincides with national ergonomics month. More specifically, we asked our HFES members to form groups and create a paper prototype of a password manager application software for a mobile device. We told each group to limit their prototype to three screens: authentication, password storage, and password generation/strength rating of passwords. Each group had a half hour to create their prototype. After creation, we had a friendly competition and rated the prototypes. Each group had 5 minutes to present the prototype and were rated by the executive board.

We then used these paper and pencil prototypes as a foundation to teach our members how to wireframe them through Figma, a free prototyping software program available online. This software was accessible and easy to learn for our members. We started by giving them a small demonstration of essential Figma functions. Afterward, we used the winning paper prototype and created it in Figma.
